Exercise outside of the home will be now be permitted as the country downgrades from level 5 to level 4 of the national lockdown.
Ministers on the coronavirus command council, led by Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, briefed the nation on Wednesday.
Dlamini-Zuma said they received over 70 000 submissions from the public and 800 from the business sector on the level 4 restrictions.
Over 22 000 people also wanted to exercise.
“You can leave to go exercise and we did stress last week that the president said exercise will be allowed under very strict conditions,” said Dlamini-Zuma.
“Under these regulations you can cycle, you can run, you can work but it will be within you neighbourhood, within about a 5km radius.”

Schools have been closed since March in a bid to curb the outbreak of coronavirus in the country. Deputy Minister of Basic Education Reginah Mhlaule told MP's in Parliament's education committee that government plans to reopen schools on May 18.
Dlamini-Zuma added that these activities would only be permitted between 6am and 9am.
“It will not be under organised groups. You can’t run as a club or as a group because we still need to keep to the health social distancing.
“We also then have to limit the time.”
