Jacaranda says #NoToXenophobia

With the recent xenophobic attacks that caught South Africa off guard, many people and organisations resorted to peace protests condemning the violence. Jacaranda FM joined in calling an end to xenophobia and the violation of human dignity along with the nation. The station, however, went the extra mile by collecting donations from their listeners who came on board as soon as they heard Jacaranda FM’s request for contributions. Listeners such as Simone Jansen van Rensburg and Tamerin Jardine heard the call for help and pulled in their friends and families to donate food, toiletries, clothes, toys and blankets. On arrival at one of the camps, it was visible that most of the refugees were vulnerable and still feeling intimidated. Some were hurt and being treated in the medical centre that was set. The camp has taken people from different places and some as far as Tzaneen and Durban who walked the distance in order to feel safe and seek refuge. Jacaranda FM and our listeners’ contributions do not end with them leaving the refugee camp because as the team arrived back at their studios in Midrand, there were more donations that had been dropped at reception.
