Angels help Prinshof School for blind and visually impaired
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
Good Morning Angels and SPAR have come together to help Prinshof School's blind and visually impaired hostel children.

Prinshof School, located in the Pretoria CBD, is one of only two schools in South Africa dedicated to educating children with visual impairments (the other being in Worcester, Western Cape).
The school has a proud history spanning over 60 years, boasting a 100% matric pass rate, with most learners going on to thrive as independent adults. Several Prinshof alumni have achieved great academic success in their adult lives.
The school currently has 478 learners, with more than half residing in the school's hostels as they come from various provinces.

Over 80% of these learners come from disadvantaged backgrounds, where parents or caregivers rely on SASSA grants. This means that most families cannot afford school or hostel fees.
The government provides a subsidy of approximately R100 per day per hostel child, which falls far short of what is needed. To help bridge this gap, Prinshof School is hosting a special fundraising event, Dinner in the Dark, this coming Friday.
So far, they have sold 30 tables at R6,000 per table and hope to sell another 20 tables before the event.

PLEASE SUPPORT PRINSHOF SCHOOL'S DINNER IN THE DARK
Dear Good Morning Angels,
Prinshof School is a specialised school for learners with visual impairments in Pretoria. We are a dedicated school community committed to improving the lives of our vulnerable learners. Our students have achieved numerous accolades, including a 100% matric pass rate, with many earning Bachelor’s and Diploma passes. Our school has also been ranked among the Top 10 LSEN schools in Gauteng and our district. Our mission is to create academic excellence while fostering the holistic development of each learner.
Currently, 88% of our learners come from previously disadvantaged communities, with their families surviving solely on SASSA grants. Of our 478 enrolled learners (Grade R – 12), 275 reside in nine hostels on the school premises. Despite receiving a government subsidy, it amounts to just R100 per hostel learner per day – covering three balanced meals, utilities, maintenance, and additional staff.
This fundraising event is crucial to our efforts to maintain and improve our hostels, creating a “home away from home” for our learners.
Sponsorship benefits:
We believe a partnership with your organisation would be mutually beneficial. As a sponsor, you will receive:
Brand exposure: Your logo and/or name can appear on banners, programmes, the school’s social media pages, and the school website.
Engagement opportunities: You will have a 3m x 3m exhibition area at the event and an opportunity to interact with guests.
Community impact: Your sponsorship will directly improve the lives of blind and visually impaired learners living in Prinshof School’s hostels.
Financial benefit: As a registered NPO, we can provide Section 18A tax deduction receipts.
Event invitation: Your sponsorship includes a table for 10 guests to enjoy the evening with us.
We request a R10,000 sponsorship per table, which includes the above-mentioned benefits.
Event details:
The evening will feature an Ox braai, dinner, and a dance, with a cash bar available. This event will also create awareness for individuals with visual impairments. Each guest will receive a blindfold while eating, offering them an opportunity to experience life from the perspective of our learners.
We would be honoured to have you as a sponsor at this vital fundraising event. Please feel free to contact me directly at 084 504 7009 or our Financial Officer, Zelma, at 074 898 7693 if you have any questions or need additional information.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to support our hostels and make a lasting difference in the lives of visually impaired learners.
Warm regards,
Karin Swart
Principal
