Angels raise funds for 10-year-old Dezi's kidney transplant
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
Good Morning Angels and the Bushveld Classic Golf Day, hosted by Anglo American Mogalakwena Platinum Mine, assisted 10-year-old Dezi and her family with R100,000 for her medical needs and life-saving kidney transplant.
Like so many small towns in South Africa, the community of Mokopane in Limpopo has its joys but also many challenges.
People tend to know more about one another's personal lives - which can be a challenge and a blessing - especially when there is a great need or crisis.

One of the families who need some Angel help is the Van Huyssteen family.
Basie and Makkie van Huyssteen's 10-year-old daughter, Dezi, has been ill since 2022. Earlier this year, it was found that she needed a kidney transplant.
Dezi is on dialysis for 12 hours every day (from 6pm to 6am), then she goes to school and tries her best to keep up.
The family are waiting for test results that would determine if Makkie can donate one of her kidneys to her daughter.
If the tests find that Dezi’s condition is genetic, Makkie will not be able to be her daughter’s donor, and Dezi will have to go on the donor list - which will mean more months of treatment, testing, and waiting. It has been a four-month wait already.
Although the family is on a medical aid, these special tests, regular blood tests, and other bills are not covered.

That's why members of the Mokopane community have reached out to Good Morning Angels for support for the Van Huyssteen family.
REQUEST FOR: 10-year-old Dezi van Huyssteen
ANGEL: Bushveld Classic Golf Day, hosted by Anglo American Mogalakwena Platinum Mine and supported by its business partners, is taking place in Mokopane on Saturday, November 23, where Sasha van Gelder will be broadcasting the regional TOP 40 LIVE from the Golf Day.
SPONSORING: The annual Bushveld Classic Golf Day raises funds to improve the lives of people in need in the broader Mokopane community.
The common goal of all participants is to make a difference and reimagine mining to improve people's lives. From the funds raised, R100,000 will be donated to the Van Huyssteen family to assist with Dezi's medical needs to get her life-saving kidney transplant.
