Thirteen-year-old Christopher Williams started this year with great excitement as a Grade 8 groentjie at Eldoraigne Hoërskool in Centurion.
His eldest brother is in matric at the same school, and his little brother started Grade 1 – it's a big year for the Williams family.
Of all the new things in high school, Christopher looked forward to playing cricket the most.
In January, Christopher played in a school match. He lunged for a ball to make a catch before falling hard on the pitch. Struggling to breathe, Christopher was rushed to ICU.

It was discovered that Christopher had a collapsed lung, along with several other complications. After additional scans and tests, doctors identified the cause – a large, cancerous tumour attached to his lung.
Unfortunately, the tumour is inoperable, and Christopher is now undergoing an eight-month chemotherapy treatment plan aimed at shrinking the tumour and preventing further growth. More treatment will follow in the coming years.
His family, friends, and school community are devastated.

Christopher's parents, Chantel and Dayne, lost their income in August last year when they had to close down their business.
While both have since found new jobs, they haven't been able to afford medical aid, as they are just getting back on their feet financially.
The community around the Williams family has been extremely supportive, but the road to recovery is long and expensive, costing an estimated R150,000 to R250,000 per month.
The family has signed up for medical aid again from next month, but Christopher's cancer will be excluded for a year.

ORIGINAL REQUEST:
Dear Good Morning Angels Team,
I hope this email finds you well. I wanted to provide an important update on Christopher Williams following my previous request.
On Monday, 27 January, we received the heartbreaking news that Christopher has been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He was immediately transferred, where his parents met with the oncologist to discuss his treatment plan.
His treatment is expected to last for eight months, with medical costs estimated to reach nearly R3 million.
On 28 January, Christopher began his first round of chemotherapy.
Given the severity of his condition and the financial burden on his family, I felt it was crucial to update you on his progress and ongoing needs.
Any assistance or support from the Good Morning Angels team would mean the world to Christopher and his loved ones during this challenging time.
The community and friends have arranged a Shavathon for 1 February at Doxa Deo Raslouw (see details attached).
Thank you for your time, compassion, and everything you do to help those in need.
Dear Good Morning Angels Team,
I am reaching out on behalf of a remarkable young boy, Christopher Williams, who is currently facing a life-altering challenge after a devastating cricket injury. Christopher is a spirited Grade 8 student with a passion for cricket and life. During a recent match, he suffered a collapsed lung, severe trauma to his heart, and other critical internal injuries while diving for the ball with the determination and courage that define him. He is now in ICU, fighting to recover.
His family, who has always prioritised their children’s well-being, is now struggling to cover the mounting medical expenses. They do not have medical aid, and his father recently started a new job after being unemployed when his company closed last year.
Andri du Plessis, a Williams family friend, has initiated a BackaBuddy campaign to help alleviate some of the financial burden. However, the road to recovery is long, and we hope to amplify this call for help by partnering with your incredible platform.
Here are the details of the campaign:
Campaign Name: Help Christopher Williams on His Road to Recovery
Link: https://www.backabuddy.co.za/campaign/help-christopher-williams-on-his-road-to-recovery
Purpose: To cover medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, and essential resources for Christopher’s recovery.
Your support would mean the world to Christopher and his family. Whether it’s a donation, sponsorship, or simply spreading the word, every bit helps. Christopher's dream is to heal, get back on his feet, and one day return to the cricket field he loves so much.
Thank you for considering this request. Your generosity and compassion could make a life-changing difference for Christopher and his family.
Warm regards,
Adéle Bruwer
ORIGINAL REQUEST 2:
Liewe Jacaranda FM,
My maaitjie Christopher, amper 14 jaar oud, is nou in die hospitaal.
Dankie,
Dian Beukes, Christopher se vriend
