Helping Alfred on his mission to save dogs in Thohoyandou
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
Good Morning Angels and Pick n Pay have joined forces to support Alfred Rananga in his mission to care for neglected pets, while also bringing some festive cheer to his family’s home.
Alfred Rananga is a man on a mission. He loves dogs and cannot live in a world where pets are neglected.
Two years ago, Alfred returned to his birthplace, Thohoyandou in Limpopo, after years of working as a dog handler in the Western Cape. Caring for dogs has always been his passion.
"I worked with the drugs and narcotics teams and participated in many drug raids – even in mines. My dogs and I arrested at least 42 drug lords," Alfred proudly shares.
When he returned to his rural hometown, he noticed an alarming number of stray dogs roaming the streets. Without hesitation, he began feeding, bathing, and deworming them. With no transport, Alfred packs everything he needs into a wheelbarrow and walks the streets.

Alfred soon realised that many pet owners in the village lacked knowledge about proper animal care.
"People laughed at me at first, but now I host workshops for pet owners every weekend," Alfred explains.
In addition, Alfred has helped sterilise more than 500 animals, educating their owners on the importance of spaying and neutering.
“And when I find a dog that has died, I give it a dignified burial,” he adds.
Despite his noble work, Alfred's only income is a small SASSA grant, which supports his entire family.
To extend his reach, Alfred created a Facebook page and receives support from donors. One donor gifted him a bicycle, enabling him to travel up to 45 kilometres daily to care for dogs in neighbouring areas.
The Limpopo Animal Foundation, one of his biggest supporters, brought Alfred’s story to the attention of Good Morning Angels, highlighting the incredible work he does with minimal resources.

ORIGINAL REQUEST:
Good day,
I know you get millions of requests, but please consider ours.
I am appealing to you for help on behalf of a friend. I have known Alfred from Ludzula Kone for just over two years now, and he is the most incredible animal warrior. He speaks for the voiceless and lives in Limpopo.
Alfred runs the Limpopo Animal Foundation. He has a few supporters on Facebook and a WhatsApp group with 47 members who donate small amounts.
This is extremely challenging, as he works without external support — just help from his few followers on social media. He attends to hundreds of voiceless animals, getting them sterilized and educating their owners. He does all of this on his own time and with minimal resources, relying on a tiny SASSA grant.

Alfred uses a bicycle to travel, which was donated by a supporter. Our group tries to send him money for food, dog supplies, airtime, and data to stay connected, but the needs are overwhelming.
Please follow him on Facebook to see that this is genuine. He always shares receipts and updates to show where donations go.
Our group would be ecstatic if you could help him!
From the bottom of our hearts,
The members of Limpopo Animal Foundation
Kind regards,
Dawn
