Assisting a mother after the tragic loss of her daughter
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
Good Morning Angels assisted Charmaine Pieterse with a donation of R100,000 after the tragic death of her daughter.
Charmaine Pieterse is well known in the Krugersdorp and Roodepoort communities as a fearless and tireless animal activist.
She's been running her 9th Day Animal Rescue, Rehabilitation & Rehoming Centre for the past decade, providing the only pro-life animal rescue in the area.
On average, they care for 300 animals a month and provide a sanctuary for 180 animals, including dogs, cats, chinchillas, horses, and donkeys.

"We mainly focus on stray animals - the neglected, sick, broken souls that live in fields, walk the streets, going through rubbish bins for food. We give them the vet care they need, teach them to trust, mend their broken souls, and find them forever homes. All our animals are vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, and sterilized. Why the name 'The 9th Day'? Because on the 9th Day, God made a dog," reads the inscription on her website: https://www.the9thday.co.za/.
Charmaine is used to fighting all manner of battles for animals in need, but this weekend, an unthinkable tragedy struck this fearless fighter when Charmaine's best friend, biggest supporter, and sister-in-arms, her daughter, Nikita, died in a car crash.
Nikita would have turned 21 on the 12th of September.
Members of the community have rallied around Charmaine and her family as they try to come to terms with this devastating loss.
They are doing what they can to support Charmaine, and they know that she would not want to let the animals in her care down as she suffers through her pain.
They also know that Charmaine would need extra financial support - a burden they wish to help lighten for her. That's why they wrote to Good Morning Angels.

ORIGINAL REQUEST:
Good morning Angels,
Charmaine runs the 9th Day Animal Rescue Centre. I was introduced to the Rescue Centre when we adopted our little dog, Firefly a few years back and Charmaine popped around to chip her. Since then, I receive updates on the plight of the Centre and am constantly in awe of what they do and the continuous strain of having to ask for donations for these amazing animals that Charmaine helps. This request is different though as Charmaine has suffered the unimaginable tragedy of losing her beloved daughter in a car accident this past weekend. According to a post shared on Facebook, Nikita would have turned 21 on the 12 September and Charmaine was planning a surprise 21st Birthday party for her. Sadly, now she has to plan a celebration of her life ☹ A Back a Buddy campaign has started on Facebook and so far has raised R28 500 of the R50 000 required. It is entitled “Let the Legend Live On” and I will copy the script written by the organiser Keagan Mac Rae to give more insight into the situation…
"Today, I am reaching out to share some heart-breaking news about a well-known animal activist Charmaine Pieterse, who has recently faced an unimaginable tragedy. Her daughter, Nikita, was involved in a severe car accident and has sadly passed away.
During this profoundly difficult time, we can extend our support and compassion. As many of you know, Charmaine is deeply committed to her work, running an organisation dedicated to rehoming and caring for animals. This was very close to her daughter’s heart as well.
In memory of Nikita and to help Charmaine through this tragedy, we are organising a collection to assist both her family and her organisation. Any contribution can make a significant difference. This support will help manage immediate needs and ensure the continuation of the vital work of her animal rehoming organisation. Please consider donating.
Thank you for considering this gesture of kindness during such a critical time. Our thoughts are with Charmaine and her family.”
Thank you for taking the time to read my request.
I remain in awe of how you change lives every day!
Thank you!
Heather
