Helping single dad Jeff restore his son's health
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
This festive season, Good Morning Angels and Pick n Pay are helping single dad Jeff Matthysen in his fight to restore his son Troy’s health and give his two boys the best life he can.
Jeff Matthysen, a single dad to 17-year-old Troy and 10-year-old Eli, lives in Kampersrus in Hoedspruit, Limpopo. He works as a mechanic by day and as a mixed martial arts instructor by night – a sport both of his sons enjoy.
Seven years ago, Jeff became a single dad after he turned his life around and overcame drug addiction. Unfortunately, the boys' mother was unable to make a similar recovery.

The family faced a significant challenge four years ago when Troy fell seriously ill.
He’s undergone several brain surgeries, including another major operation last week in Centurion. During this time, Jeff has been by Troy’s side, unable to work and earn the income needed to cover the growing medical expenses.
Despite these challenges, Jeff fights on, with the support of the Hoedspruit community rallying behind them every step of the way.
Several community members reached out to Good Morning Angels, seeking help for this determined dad, as he fights to provide the best life possible for his sons.

To whom it may concern
I am emailing you from Hoedspruit, Limpopo, about a boy named Troy Matthysen.
He is 17 years old, suffering from Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma – a rare disease that affects young boys.
He was diagnosed in 2021 and has been battling through life-threatening situations and complications ever since. He currently has fluid leaking from his brain and was scheduled for emergency surgery on Monday, 18 November, as he developed meningitis, which spread to his brain.
He and his brother are being raised by their single dad, who is now unable to work due to this medical condition and travel requirements, as well as the time needed to be with his sons (specifically Troy). They are in urgent need of donations to help with further surgeries and treatments.

A car wash fundraiser was held in Kampersrus on Monday, 18 November to help; however, the financial requirements exceed R500,000 and no car wash can even try to reach that scale.
I plead for you to please consider Troy for Good Morning Angels. Any contribution, big or small, will go SUCH a long way in helping this child and family! His family are desperate for help and desperate to save Troy’s life – please!
I am not part of their family, just a worried member of our community desperate to help find ways to help Troy!
With all the best wishes, and thank you for everything that you do for so many people in need!
