Assisting teacher Nazree to help children enjoy and understand maths
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
The Willard Batteries Bursary Fund assisted Nazree with R30,000 towards her 2024 post-graduate studies at NWU in Curriculum Design.
A 29-year-old mom of two, Nazree de Lange, is a passionate maths teacher at a school in Reiger Park on the East Rand. She loves her job, but wants to do more for the children in her school community.
"My reasoning for studying is for the betterment of these children and this community. I’m currently a teacher in a poverty-stricken area. I work with some of the most difficult children - children that can’t read and write and many have social issues."
Nazree studied an Economics Diploma as well as a PGCE at Nelson Mandela University, passing her post graduate cum laude. Now, she’s been accepted for an honours in Curriculum Design in Education at NWU - because she believes that the way in which children are taught maths can be improved to better serve the children.
Nazree is also the breadwinner of her family, as her husband was retrenched from work last year. She desperately wants to grab the opportunity to study further to become a better teacher, but with the high cost of living, she is not be able to afford this. That’s why she wrote to Good Morning Angels to apply for a Willard Bursary.

ORIGINAL REQUEST:
Good day.
As everyone knows, last year was an immensely difficult financial year for everyone, especially for my family.
I am a mom of two children and last year my husband was let go from his job. I was then forced, due to circumstances, to become the breadwinner in our home, thus having no savings but a goal to further my career as an educator.
I’m currently a teacher in a poverty-stricken area. I work with some of the most difficult children, children that can’t read and write and many have social issues. My reasoning for studying is for the betterment of these children and this community.
I studied an Economics Diploma as well as a PGCE at Nelson Mandela University, passing my post graduate cum laude. I applied at NWU and got accepted for my honours in Curriculum Design in Education.
Registration for the program is R11 810.
Thank you for the opportunity to apply for a Willard Bursary,
Nazree de Lange
