Jacaranda FM

Every year, Jacaranda FM presents the Spar Carols by Candlelight concert to ring in the festive season. We also use the opportunity to give our listeners a chance to bring some festive cheer to the lives of children, who would not normally have the prospect of a gift under the tree.

All the proceeds of ticket sales to the Jacaranda FM Spar Carols By Candlelight concert on 6 December will again go towards this cause.

This year, Jacaranda FM has partnered with Santa Shoebox to help us put these special gifts together. They will be distributed to 14 children’s homes and organisations across the country.

Ds Abraham Kriel started the orphanage at the Bambanani facility in Langlaagte 121 years ago!

Today, it is home to 60 teenage girls, as well as 50 younger children and babies at the Maria Kloppers campus.

In 1995, Abraham Kriel Bambanani branched out to establish satellite homes in Linden, Fontainebleau, Aasvoëlkop, Benoni, Kempton East, Bermuda, and Youth Space - where another 70 children have a permanent home.

"The children in our care look up to us and we are committed to give them a safe home, make sure they are loved, give them nutritious meals, all the appropriate educational opportunities, as well as therapy and support to heal their emotional wounds and thrive in their young lives,” says Annamart Viljoen, Abraham Kriel Social Funding Developer.

The home depends on funding from private donors to make ends meet, as government subsidies fall far short to cover all the needs.

In recent times, the financial downturn has left many committed donors without means, while the need at children’s homes have increased.

Due to the closure of other facilities, Abraham Kriel has had to take in 70 more children this year alone - while their budgets have shrunk.

That’s why they have reached out to Good Morning Angels for a platform to plead for assistance.

ORIGINAL REQUEST:

Dear Good Morning Angels,

I am Annamart Viljoen, the Social Funding Developer of Abraham Kriel Bambanani.

I was involved when we started with satellite houses, like Benoni house, which has always been close to my heart.

We know what house parents are going through and we know their needs very well.

The children in our care look up to us and we are committed to give them a safe home, make sure they are loved, give them nutritious meals, all the appropriate educational opportunities, as well as therapy and support to heal their emotional wounds and thrive in their young lives.

We know that so many individuals and small companies we know as loyal generous donors, are going through a crisis  and retrenchments at the moment.

We therefore have to share our kids needs with the wider public and companies who may feel blessed to actually be in a position to make that difference.

Our URGENT needs:

  • FUNDS to cover the increased food bill per house The R7000 pm budgeted per house need to be increased to R10 000 at least
  • Funds to buy school wear and -as other homes closed down we have extra children in our care that we did not budget for in February and it means R1000 per child (70 children ) is needed to make sure they are dressed and equipped for 2024-R 70 000
  • Deserving Students also need Registration fees to be paid in January and donors to cover course fees. The amount per student differs but we will gladly share details of our students if companies wish to cover student costs.
