BACKGROUND: The phone call any parent dreads hearing reached the Pohl family from Mokgophong on the night of 28 September. There was a head-on crash.

Their 22-year-old daughter, Odette was in a serious condition with multiple injuries on the way to the hospital.

Her boyfriend, 26-year-old Lourens Kruger was in a critical condition. Three people in the other vehicle were declared dead on the scene. No more information was available.

Lourens Kruger sadly didn't make it - he passed away a week later.

Odette was transferred to a private hospital in Tzaneen, where she has had several surgeries to repair her multiple injuries.

Her dad, Riaan is by her side in hospital, while her mom, Corné has returned to work. They have to cover the hospital costs, which they have managed to do with loans and the community's assistance.

Odette only recently started a job and her medical aid only kicked in after a three-month waiting period.

Several members of the community have contacted Good Morning Angels to assist this family: they lost one young life and want to do all they can to help Odette heal.

ORIGINAL REQUESTS:

"Goeiemore,

"Ek vertrou dit gaan goed.

"Ons benodig fondse vir my niggie.

"Sien asseblief foto aangeheg."

Vriendelike groete,
Mishka Prinsloo

"Good afternoon

"I have dear friends who are in urgent need of a miracle in terms of finances to save their daughter.

"Riaan Pohl and I grew up together in the Koedoesriver Valley around the small town of Mooketsi. Corné studied agriculture with me and I introduced them after which they got married.

"From their marriage, two children were born. Odette and Migael (Patat).

"Odette and her boyfriend, Louis, were in a major car accident on 28 September 2024. She only started her adult, professional life recently and couldn't afford medical aid yet. Riaan managed to borrow the first R140,000 from the bank to have medical treatment started on Odette. She suffered severe limb breakage (arms, legs, heels), a serious head injury, loss of her front teeth and internal abdominal and pelvis injuries. After the first set of operations (30 September 2024), she will be sedated for two days and then she will undergo the next set of operations.

"Louis is still at risk of not pulling through ...

"Riaan built up a large game-catching, breeding and trading business but during COVID-19 he lost his whole business. He never stopped trying to build up a farming business, but times were tough. Corne luckily has a steady job, but money is not something that is in abundance.

"When Riaan's business was still operational, he never hesitated to help the people around him. Financially and in any other form of assistance that was needed. I wish he and his family could be helped by an angel, the same way he never hesitated to help others, even if times were tough.

"I really hope there can be good news from the Jacaranda Good Morning Angels.

"Kind regards,"

Bertus
