GMA EXTRA 23 JANUARY 2017 (1 DEC 2016 MOERIEDA/CELL-C)
BACKGROUND: Selfless, strong, survivor. That’s Moerieda Davids. She has always worked in her community to uplift, help, save, support whomever she can. Three years ago, Moerieda made it formal and the "Social Responsibility Group” was born. This, despite fighting breast cancer herself. At the end of last year, one of her friends asked Good Morning Angels to help Moerieda put together 500 compassion packs for her annual Christmas project and GMA Festive Edition sponsor, Cell-C donated R30 000,00 towards this selfless deed. Moerieda put together the hampers containing everyday essentials like tooth paste and brushes, snacks and socks, soap and a waterproof poncho, for those who do not have the basics of dignity.
ORIGINAL REQUEST:
Good Morning Team,
From incurable to incredible, I have a colleague who is a cancer survivor and lives with chronic disorders daily, but still manages to do the following ( please see info below), and never asks for anything for herself.
“I have always worked with the community, focusing mostly on orphanages, but about 3 years ago I made it official and started a group called Social Responsibility Group but the community knows us as SRG. With SRG we assist in getting kids off the streets that are on drugs and get them into rehabilitation programs either through community members who are running centers or through the government. We also help communities with food parcels and getting kids into safe houses. Basically we try to do anything and everything that we can with the community. Over Christmas, we usually collaborate with another group and do the Christmas 500, where we endeavour to feed 500 homeless people on Christmas day.
This year, most of my group members will be on holiday and I thought I would go solo and do compassion packs. My minimum I would like to do is 500 but I am aiming for as many as I possibly can.” I would really appreciate it if somehow we could assist her with her wish list of the following:
Compassion Packs
1 toothbrush
1 toothpaste
1 facecloth
1 bar of soap
1 Pair of Socks
A comb
Dry snacks
Waterproof Poncho (available at the crazy store)
If you can pack it in a carry bag, it will be great and if you can give only parts of a pack that would be great too. Thank you for all you do for our community
Kind regards,
Janet Cloete
