GMA EXTRA 13 FEBRUARY 2017 (MAGDALENE/CELL-C 28 NOV 2016)
84-year old pensioner, Magdalene Raphata’s Day Care Centre in Protea South, Soweto has a brand new roof and shading for the children to play.
BACKGROUND: We met 84-year old Magdaleen Raphata during our Good Morning Angels Festive Edition with Cell-C, at the end of last year. This retired teacher, still cares for around 45 pre-schoolers every weekday at her day care centre. Most of the children are from poor families and the parents pay what they can - Magdaleen takes care of the rest. Her daughter Elizabeth asked Good Morning Angels to help her mom put up a roof to provide a shaded play area for the children. Cell-C gave them R30 000,00 to do this and other improvements. We caught up with Elizabeth this morning.
ORIGINAL REQUEST:
My name is Elizabeth Mobita and believe the Jacaranda Angles can help this needy NGO. This NGO is run by an 84-year old retired teacher, Magdaleen Raphata. She has a passion for education, love of children and the will to give. This day care is based in Protea South, where most of the children come from the informal settlement with most of the parents unemployed The Day care is in need of donations of any kind BUT the most they wish to get is Cover for shade for the children to be able to play during the day when it is hot. The Centre has employed 2 teachers and a cook who get their salaries from the owners pension. The centre has been running for 8 years and is definitely in need of some sort of help, and I believe the angles can help with anything.
Kind Regards,
Elizabeth Mobita
