Good Morning Angels: Assisting animals in need of much-needed love
On Good Morning Angels, the Angels showed their support for Hoedspruit Animal Outreach “HALO" in order to help animals in need.
The Hoedspruit area of Limpopo is world-renowned for its bushveld and wildlife, with breathtaking nature, numerous game farms and lodges. Amid the natural beauty, love of nature, and simplicity of life, lies abject poverty, especially in the rural communities.
While there is a big focus in this region on conservation and wildlife, domestic animals are not so lucky. In the rural communities, veterinary services are not available and that’s why the Hoedspruit Animal Outreach or “HALO” was formed in 2016.

Halo is non-profit organisation, run by volunteers, that deals with the vaccination and monthly health checks of dogs, as well as sterilisation and emergency medical care for eight villages.
Since 2016, HALO has helped 14,692 dogs with consults, sterilised 1,365 dogs, and vaccinated 11,021 dogs. Vaccination against rabies is very important in this high-risk rabies area, where HALO deals with up to 15 rabies cases a year. "In 2015 a pack of wild dogs was actually lost to rabies. By vaccinating dogs in the rural communities we actively contribute to wildlife conservation."
Like so many other NPCs, HALO has lost some of their major financial supporters due to the economic downturn, while the need only gets worse. That’s why one of the HALO volunteers reached out to Good Morning Angels.

Dear Good Morning Angels,My name is Suzaan van Zyl, I am a volunteer representative of Halo Animal Outreach. Halo is non-profit organisation situated in the heart of Limpopo Kampersrus. We are an organisation that deals with the vaccination and monthly health check of dogs, sterilisation and emergency medical care for the surrounding villages in our area.
We are in urgent need of funds for us to carry on fulfilling our monthly targets and our monthly emergency care. As you can see in my attached document, you will see our monthly costs to fulfil the purpose of Halo, and also the figures of our monthly sterilisation, Vaccinations, and medical care.

THIS IS HALO
HALO is a 100% volunteer-run NGO based in Hoedspruit, offering free veterinary care to dogs in the rural communities around Hoedspruit since 2016. The rural communities we serve lack any and all veterinary facilities and together with the chiefs of the communities we set up our outreach program that we have run since 2016.
With our weekly outreach program (4 programs at the moment in 8 communities: LeBoeng, The Oaks, The Willows, Sekororo, Mulalani, Moraba, Manoutsa, Tswenyane) we vaccinate dogs against rabies and 5-in-1, give treatment for external and internal parasites, give wound care and educate owners on animal kindness and welfare.
HALO signs up dogs for sterilisation and offers free emergency treatments and humane euthanasia in case of critically injured or sick dogs. HALO has a holding facility in the heart of the rural community which offers space for 30 dogs that need medium care.
Since 2016 HALO has helped 14,692 dogs with consults, sterilised 1,365 dogs and vaccinated 11,021 dogs.
The rural communities around Hoedspruit are underprivileged and there are no veterinary facilities in the area, so all owners depend on HALO for help.
This part of Limpopo is a high-risk area for rabies and we see about 8-15 rabies cases per year and even human casualties. With the surrounding private game reserves the risk of rabies for wildlife populations of lion, leopard, hyena and wild dog is realistic, in 2015 a pack of wild dogs was actually lost to rabies.
By vaccinating dogs in the rural communities we actively contribute to wildlife conservation.
