SPONSORING: The Pretoria branch of the SA Veterinary Association has pledged R30 000,00 towards improving the facilities and training for staff at Wet Nose in Pretoria.
BACKGROUND: The Wet Nose Animal Rescue Center is a Right to Life animal shelter that rescues, rehabilitates and then re-homes abused, abandoned and neglected animals. Right to Life means that no animal is put to sleep, unless it is in severe suffering and cannot be saved. Every animal is loved and cared for until a loving home is found for it, no matter how long it takes. The dogs are walked daily and taken to exercise runs, so that they have a good quality of life, and get exercise during their stay with us. The cats live in beautiful catteries where they are spoiled with love and toys, and anything their little heart’s desire. Our staff are well trained to care for the animals in their care and to treat every animal with dignity and respect. Every member of staff has a true passion for animals and not one of the 40 staff members think of their work as just a job. This mind-set ensures that our animals are happy and content – because every life is precious! Wet Nose does not receive any government or municipal funding of any kind and relies on the animal loving public for its survival. They care for around 600 animals, mostly dogs and cats, but also horses, donkeys, emu’s etc.

It has come to the attention of the Pretoria branch of the South African Veterinary Association that Wetnose animal welfare center are in need of certain facilities and services, as an association we would like to make a donation and assist where we can.
Wetnose has an immediate need for the following:
1) More outdoor larger, grassed day runs for the kenneled dogs. Currently there are only sufficient to allow each dog out only once a week.
2) A dedicated, quiet closed in area to allow a “meet and greet” interaction with new dogs and the owners current pets
3) Shelters (wooden) for the small stock (goats, sheep, pigs) which will be housed at the Education Area.
4) A large roofed open walled structure to store feed bales.
The Pretoria Branch has about R 30 000-00 available for donation:
The branch members agreed that they would like to sponsor:
1) a block of outdoor enclosures for the dogs
2) a more secluded, closed in area for “meet and greet” with new and current pets
3) Organising a veterinary behaviorist to train Wet Nose staff in the methods of introducing a new dog to the existing pets and making a brochure for the clients
