Good Morning Angels New Year's Edition: Single mother of three receives bursary
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
Entrepreneur, breadwinner and mother of three, Elaine Ngoni Zwane, is ready to reach the sky and stars.
BACKGROUND: 34-year-old Elaine Zwane from Soweto, is a proud mother of three beautiful children. She’s also a determined, dedicated entrepreneur, who started and runs a business sewing and selling Shweshwe picnic blankets, oven gloves, dog beds, dog blankets, iron board covers and also recently started making sun hats for school children.
She’s been building her business, initially going door-to-door, since 2014, when she received a sewing machine. She was unemployed at the time, struggling to find a job. She now advertises on Facebook “Elaine’s Sewing Studio". Elaine has also for the past 7 years tried to enrol at Unisa, to further her education to give her children a brighter future. She initially had her eye set on studying a BA Environmental Management degree but has also been accepted to study Credit Management at a training school in Germiston. "My dream is to learn and not only reach for the sky, but the stars, and someone my kids can look up to”, says Elaine.
One of Elaine’s very satisfied customers, was so impressed with her work, energy and commitment after just one encounter, that she wrote to Good Morning Angels to help Elaine reach her goal of studying

To the Good Morning Angels Team,
I moved to Johannesburg in December last year and joined a community Facebook group where one could ask advice or questions on where to find things or places.
On this site, I saw a post of a young lady, Elaine Ngoni Zwane, who is making dog beds to make money for her studies - a BA degree in Environmental studies. So far she has made enough money for her registration fee but keeps making and selling items to make money for her studies.
She has grown over the few months since I have bought my lovely dog bed, into making patio cushions, blankets you name it. Her newest post was to make hats for school kids and selling those.
I bought a dog bed and I am really impressed with her work. She is a kind and friendly young lady who really just needs a break financially to complete her studies.
Think of what she could accomplish after her studies if she is so dedicated before she has even started.
I am attaching two posts from Facebook so you can get an idea of how hard-working and dedicated she is to complete her studies. How motivated she is in making every penny herself.
I am so hoping this is a possibility that Good Morning Angels could help with. What a feel-good South African story this is.
Thank you for all the opportunities you give to people and communities in need.
Kind Regards
Delani Hollhumer
