Good Morning Angels recipient pays the kindness forward
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
After help from numerous Angels on Good Morning Angels in 2023, Michelle achieved five distinctions and will start her first year at TUKS with everything she needs. Now she’s paying it forward!
We first met Lizette, the mother of teenage daughter Michelle, in September 2023. Michelle was in Grade 11 and excelling at school, achieving academic colours despite challenging circumstances. At the time, friends reached out to Good Morning Angels to help Lizette provide Michelle with things she would never ask for, such as a matric farewell dress for 2024 and a cellphone.
While Lizette and Michelle have quite a story, Lizette is quick to point out that she didn't "save" Michelle – rather, Michelle was sent to save her.
Lizette, a single mother to her teenage daughter, was deeply moved when she read a newspaper article. The heartbreaking story detailed the discovery of a newborn baby, wrapped in a plastic bag and left in a dustbin in Soshanguve. This tragic event inspired Lizette to adopt a baby, offering a loving home to a child in need.
Six months later, Lizette received her baby – a little girl she named Michelle. To her astonishment, Michelle turned out to be the very same baby Lizette had read about in the newspaper. It was April 2007, and Lizette was thriving in her career at the time.
Michelle grew into a beautiful, kind, determined, and talented young lady. However, in 2016, Lizette faced a setback when she was retrenched from her job, a financial blow from which she has yet to recover. Along with this, Lizette has also faced serious health struggles.
The Angels came together to help Lizette and Michelle during her matric year:
Midas and Motus Aftermarket Parts helped with monthly financial contributions for a year.
Karen Kruger from Karen Couturier provided a designer dress and photoshoot for Michelle’s matric farewell, with hair and make-up sponsored by Walter Würth from Follicle on the Move.
Medicare Hospital Equipment offered a bursary for Michelle’s LLB studies at the University of Pretoria.
Huawei donated a brand-new cellphone.
Yesterday, Michelle received her excellent matric results: five distinctions, 78%, and 79% – and an impressive average of 84%! She has been accepted to study LLB Law at the University of Pretoria and will begin her first year next month.
In recognition of her hard work, Michelle also received a car from a sponsor!
Contributions from Angels:
Minjon Gnäde from Medicare Hospital Equipment: Bursary for LLB studies at the University of Pretoria, with R75,000 already paid into her account.
Karen Kruger from Karen Couturier: Designer matric farewell dress and photoshoot.
Walter Würth from Follicle on the Move: Hair and make-up for her matric farewell.
Kenny Arnold, representing Midas and Motus Aftermarket Parts: An additional R20,000 for books and expenses for Michelle’s upcoming year, following R60,000 in sponsorship last year.
Motus' Rosaley: Sponsored Michelle’s driving lessons.
Michelle's story is a testament to resilience, determination, and the power of kindness. With the support of Good Morning Angels and their generous sponsors, Michelle is now ready to start an exciting new chapter.
On the first Good Morning Angels of 2025, Michelle visited 'Breakfast with Martin Bester', where she shared her exciting news on behalf of Good Morning Angels. She also plans to pay the kindness shown to her forward.
Good Morning Angels received an early request for matric farewell assistance from Yolandi Raschke, who reached out on behalf of her daughter, Megan.
Despite facing numerous health challenges, Megan has demonstrated incredible resilience, working hard to maintain her marks and perform well at school.
She’s looking forward to her final year, and both Megan and her mom have frequently discussed the upcoming matric farewell later this year.
Unfortunately, in November 2024, Yolandi was retrenched, leaving her feeling as though she failed her daughter, as she no longer had the means to afford the dream they had built together.
On Wednesday, January 15, while visiting Good Morning Angels, Michelle shared the exciting news on air that her Angels, Karen Couturier and Follicle on the Move, would extend the same kindness to Megan by sponsoring her dress, hair, and makeup for her upcoming matric farewell.
After the announcement, Michelle said it felt so good to give back!
