Good Morning Angels: Young rugby talent gets some Angel assistance
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
After surviving a freak accident that claimed his friend’s life, Eduan Fourie needs some Angel help!
Listen to the full Good Morning Angels here:
BACKGROUND: At the age of 17, Eduan Fourie already stands 1.95 meters tall. He is a very talented fine artist, but it’s his talent on the rugby field that has brought this born and bred Pretoria North boy to Hoërskool Porterville in the Western Cape. Eduan was spotted by a talent scout and was offered a bursary at the school. He and his dad, Eduard, are both huge Stormers fans, which made the move away from his mom, Petricia, younger brother Breedin, and grandparents in Pretoria-North a little easier.
He was supposed to play in the Craven and Akademie Week rugby tournaments these school holidays, but sadly he is not. Two weeks ago, Eduan and two of his friends, Raylan Theron (14) and Chris Tosen (17), were walking on the pavement next to a road in Melkbosstrand. There was an accident involving two cars. One of the cars spun and hit the three boys next to the road. Raylan died of his injuries. Eduan sustained multiple injuries to the right side of his body: seven broken ribs, a broken jaw and teeth, dislodged shoulder, a smashed-up knee, and some damage to his kidney, liver, and lung. Chris escaped with minor injuries.
Eduan is being treated at the Groote Schuur Academic Hospital. His parents have been by his side, while his brother is staying with his grandparents in Pretoria-North. The family do not have medical aid and is very grateful for the help their son receives at the state hospital. Travel and accommodation in the Western Cape are costly and the family is struggling to keep up. The road to recovery for Eduan is still long. That’s why Eduan's’ primary school and art teacher, Sonja Wentzel, wrote to Good Morning Angels for some assistance and encouragement for Eduan and his family.

ORIGINAL REQUEST:
Goeie more Martin en Good Morning Angels,
Groete,
Juffrou Sonja Wentzel
