Helping a father rebuild after a burglar set his home alight
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
This festive season, Good Morning Angels and Pick n Pay have helped David Moloi with R40,000 so he can repair his family home after a burglar set it alight.
Sixty-five-year-old David Moloi is a hardworking man and the breadwinner for his wife and four children.
He works at a furniture factory in Johannesburg, while his family lives in their home in Qwa-Qwa, Free State.
David's colleagues describe him as "a loyal employee for many years". Although it isn't easy for him to live so far from home, his commitment ensures that his family has everything they need.
A few weeks ago, a senseless act by a thief nearly cost David and his family everything.

A burglar broke into their home and set the living room couch on fire. David’s wife and four children managed to escape the flames and smoke. They contained the blaze before it spread further, but significant damage was done to the home David had spent a lifetime building.
David's colleagues rallied to help, providing essential items for the family. However, they fell short of the R35,000 needed for building materials and labour costs.
David's colleague, Candice Grobler, reached out to Good Morning Angels. She wrote, "I send this email with the hope that you will be able to assist David and his family in getting back on their feet."

Angel: Pick n Pay, our Good Morning Angels Festive Edition sponsor – creating moments of magic this festive season
Sponsoring: Pick n Pay believes that the little things count. They will assist David and his family with festive season groceries worth R5,000. Additionally, to help the Moloi family restore their home, Pick n Pay will cover the R35,000 needed for fire damage repairs. This brings the total sponsorship value to R40,000!
Original request from Candice Grobler:
Good Morning Team,
I hope that you are well.
I come to you in the hopes that you would be able to assist me.
One of our staff members recently lost his family home in a fire in Qwa-Qwa.
David is 65 and has been a loyal employee for many years. His wife and four children, unfortunately, had to helplessly stand by and watch as their home burned down when a burglar broke in and set their lounge alight. The fire quickly spread to the rest of the home.

As a company, we are donating what we can and assisting with filling his home with necessities. However, we are falling short when it comes to the building materials and labor costs.
Please see the attached pictures and quote. We estimate that he would need around R35,000 for building material and labor to repair the damage.
I have heard the tragic stories of many on your radio station and the way you rally and spring into action is truly heartwarming. I send this email with the hope that you will be able to assist David and his family in getting back on their feet.
Kind regards,
Candice Grobler
