Sally Shentall, from Lichtenberg in North West, is a mother of two daughters, Leigh (4) and Elara (2). She is currently in her second year of distance learning at North-West University (NWU), pursuing a Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase Teaching.

After finishing school, Shentall never had the opportunity to further her studies. However, last year, she decided to finally chase her dream of becoming a teacher.

“My children were in school and preschool during the day, which allowed me to dedicate time to studying,” she shared.

Unfortunately, on December 17, her family was involved in a car accident. Shentall's husband sustained a serious back injury and is still recovering. As a self-employed individual, he has been unable to work and, therefore, earn a living.

On top of this financial setback, the family has been burdened with mounting medical bills.

That’s why she reached out to Good Morning Angels, applying for a Willard Bursary to cover her R32,000 tuition fees for 2025.

ORIGINAL REQUEST:

Dear Good Morning Angels, Jacaranda team, and Willard,

I hope this message finds you well. My name is Sally Shentall, and I am a second-year distance learning student at NWU, studying for a Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase Teaching. I am writing to apply for a bursary to support my continued education, as I am currently facing unexpected financial challenges.

As a 32-year-old wife and mother of two, I never had the opportunity to further my studies when I was younger. Last year, I finally decided to chase my dream. However, in recent weeks, my family has faced a series of unfortunate events that have significantly impacted our financial situation.

On 17 December, we were involved in a car accident, and my husband sustained a serious back injury. He is now unable to work, as he is self-employed, and while we navigate his recovery, we have been overwhelmed by medical bills.

These unforeseen circumstances have left me struggling to find a way to cover my tuition fees for the upcoming academic year. I am reaching out for assistance through this bursary to help me continue my education and pursue my goals. I worked so hard last year—I don’t want to have to stop now.

I am passionate about my studies and committed to achieving academic success, not only for myself but also for my children. Receiving this bursary would allow me to focus on my coursework without the constant worry of how to fund my education. It would bring me one step closer to completing my degree and securing a brighter future for my family.

Thank you for considering my application. I deeply appreciate any support you can provide. I have attached this year’s tuition quotation and am happy to provide any additional information or documentation if needed.

I look forward to the opportunity to continue my studies with your help.

Sincerely,
Sally Shentall
