Helping a passionate coach to raise young rugby stars
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
Good Morning Angels assisted the Jaguars Rugby Club in Alberton with R10,000 towards their awards celebration as well as R15,000 towards next year’s kit and jerseys. That’s a total donation of R25,000 to help the Jaguars develop the young rugby stars of the future.
Sports stars are not born overnight. Any Springbok or top achiever will have an impactful coach or two along their journey. In many cases, it would be a primary school coach or teacher who ignites the passion, belief, and love for the sport.
Sean Nel from Alberton is one such coach. He started the Jaguars Rugby Club in 2014 to introduce the under six, seven, and eight pupils of General Alberts Primary School in Alberton to rugby.

The club promotes team spirit, fitness, and fun through healthy competition and teaches children all there is to know about rugby teamwork, discipline, and fitness to get them ready for school rugby.
All the Jaguars coaches are parents and volunteers who do their certification through the Boksmart programme. They go through intensive training to ensure the safety of the over 100 children who now participate.
The teams play around 34 matches in a season, where every player gets a drink and a small meal.
Sean does fundraising throughout the year for the team jerseys, food and drinks, and other expenses. He usually ends the year off with an end-of-season ceremony, where the young stars of tomorrow are rewarded for their hard work and dedication with a certificate, trophy, and meal.
This year, funds are running very low, and for the first time, Sean is worried that he will disappoint the young boys and girls. That's why he reached out to Good Morning Angels.

ORIGINAL REQUEST:
Dear Jacaranda FM
We are in desperate need of a sponsorship and need trophies for our season-end prize giving.
Jaguars Rugby Club voluntarily trains five- to nine-year-old players and gets them ready for school rugby. We have played seven games so far and have another four games coming up. At each game, we feed around 120 players and coaches at our own cost. We have run a bit low on funds and are unable to afford to purchase trophies and print certificates for our players for this year’s prize-giving.
We are reaching out to community members and companies to assist with donations or sponsorship for our Junior rugby club. Our season is nearly done and we normally host an event to praise and congratulate our players with a small meal, a certificate and a trophy.
We need around R10,000 to purchase 120 Trophies, print certificates and food for the day. In return, we will print your logo on our trophies and our new jerseys next season.
Hoping to hear from you soon
Regards,
Sean Nel
