Little Okhe will finally receive life-saving heart surgery
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
Good Morning Angels and the DisChem Foundation have helped make little Okhe’s heart surgery a reality!

Eighteen-month-old Okhe (Okhethwaho) Mudau from Seshego, Limpopo, is the only child of her 25-year-old mother, Pertunia Mudau.
Pertunia, a student at a TVET college in Polokwane, supports them both with a SASSA grant as their sole income.
In January 2024, when Okhe was just five months old, she was first admitted to Seshego Hospital and later transferred to Polokwane Provincial Hospital for further treatment.

Pertunia was told that Okhe had a hole in her heart and would need to be transferred to Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria for the necessary treatment. It was there that they met Prof Lindy Mitchell, an interventional paediatric cardiologist.
Prof Mitchell signed Okhe up for surgery, but in December 2024, it was postponed as Okhe needed a more specialised open-heart surgery, which wasn't covered by the congenital heart project Prof Mitchell was running with Operation Healing Hands.
The team at the Maboneng Heart & Lung Institute at Netcare Sunninghill Hospital has since stepped in, offering their full support to help Okhe.
Okhe's surgery is now scheduled for Friday, 28 February 2025. The final hurdle is raising the R200,000 needed to cover the remaining costs of this life-saving heart operation.
