Simoné, 2, is about to see for the first time
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
Good Morning Angels and Pick n Pay helped two-year-old Simoné to see for the first time by donating the outstanding costs of her life-changing surgery to the value of R20,000 and making their Christmas extra special with R10,000 towards food, groceries, and gifts from their nearest Pick n Pay.
Two-year-old Simoné is in theatre as we speak, to receive a life-changing cataract removal operation.
Her parents managed to scrape together the R20,000 deposit needed for the procedure, which the doctor described as urgent.
Her mom Audrey, dad, and two older brothers never even realised that her eyesight was virtually non-existent.
Audrey noticed more that there might be something amiss with Simoné’s eyes and took her to the doctor, who found that she was born with a very rare condition that formed cataracts on her eyes.
Her one eye was completely blind and she had about 2-5% in the other.
The family are not on a medical aid, as Audrey's husband only recently found a job after retrenchment last year and her employment contract also comes to an end this month.
Now, Simoné is receiving her operation - but a member of Audrey’s church reached out to Good Morning Angels to help them "make a plan" to cover the costs.

ORIGINAL REQUEST:
Good day Jacaranda
I would like to nominate the following family for some assistance to help this beautiful and playful little girl.
On November 3, 2022, little Simoné made her early arrival into the world. Born prematurely and struggling to breathe, Simoné was placed in the NICU and spent her first days on a ventilator. Against the odds, she fought bravely and was soon able to breathe on her own. Four days later, Simoné was discharged, and her family brought her home, filled with hope and gratitude.
As Simoné grew, her family noticed her eyes weren’t aligning as they should, but each visit to the optometrist brought the same reassurance that her vision would likely improve with age. But it didn’t. With each passing month, Simoné’s parents could see that something was amiss. After countless visits to optometrists, they were given devastating news: Simoné is blind in her left eye, and her right eye has only limited sight.
Now, just weeks before her second birthday, Simoné is a lively, curious little girl who loves to play with other children. But her limited vision makes it challenging. Because she has to be close to other children to see them clearly, she often struggles to keep up. She stumbles frequently, tripping over objects on the ground she can’t see, and she sometimes walks into things, causing other children not to understand her needs and shy away.
Simoné’s family doesn’t have medical insurance, but they’re determined to give her every chance at a brighter future. Specialists have confirmed that surgery will be essential if she’s to have any hope of improved vision. But the road to recovery will be long and costly, with consultations, treatments, and surgery that her family simply cannot afford on their own.
With your help, Simoné can have a chance to see the world as every child deserves. Your support could open doors for her—allowing her to grow, play, and learn alongside other children without limitations.
Please consider donating to help Simoné and her family on this journey. Every bit of support brings her one step closer to the gift of sight. Thank you for being a part of Simoné’s story and helping us make her dreams of seeing reality.
The donations currently are stilling at R 3,600.00, however, more is needed, please can she be considered for your help in order for her to live a normal life?
Kind regards,
Ben Eksteen
