Spreading the warmth and love of WarmFees 2024
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
Wednesday on Good Morning Angels, Martin Bester and the Round Table kicked off WarmFees 2024 by assisting the children and staff of the New Jerusalem Children's Home to stay warm this winter.
Winter has been slow to arrive, but it's coming; that's why Martin Bester and the Round Table kick off WarmFees/WarmFest 2024 this Saturday in Centurion.
Your entry to any of the concerts is simple: no fee, just a new blanket. People who need warmth will also be very happy to receive some food, so if you can, bring some non-perishable food along.
And as always, don't forget about our furry friends - pet food can also make a huge difference and will not go to waste.
There are so many people who can use an extra hug of warmth this time of year. Children rely on adults in any home, so orphanages have an extra burden this time of year to make sure that their fast-growing children are warm and comfortable through the winter months.
Our Jacaranda FM neighbours, New Jerusalem Children's Home, visited us with a special request for assistance with warmth for their 116 beautiful children: from PJs and slippers to jackets, track suits, trainers and blankets. They would also like to acquire some heating options for those extra cold, frosty Gauteng winter nights.
REQUEST FOR: Adv Anna Difo and New Jerusalem Children's Home
ANGEL 1: Hein van Rooyen representing the Warm Fest partners, the Round Table
SPONSORING: The Round Table will assist New Jerusalem Children's Home with a donation of R25,000 from the Round Table Theatre funds towards its heating needs.
The Round Table has also brought along 150 brand-new blankets for the children and staff of New Jerusalem Children's Home that were collected with the previous WarmFest!
ANGEL 2: The Good Morning Angels Fund NPC
SPONSORING: The Good Morning Angels Fund will match the donation with assistance of R25,000 towards keeping the children of New Jerusalem Children’s Home warm this winter!
ANGEL 3: Tshepiso Phosa representing Spectrum Utility Management
SPONSORING: The team at Spectrum Utility Management will assist New Jerusalem Children's Home with R10,000 towards food. Their partner, Robyn Prevost Photography, will help the home with a new website. They have also brought some sweet packs for all the children just to share some more love and a little treat to bring more warmth to their lives!

More about New Jerusalem Children’s Home:
Advocate Anna Difo is the founder of this home in Midrand. She started her working life, as a prosecutor in the children’s court. She was responsible for sending offending children to jail or juvenile correction facilities. Over the years of working with children involved in criminality, Anna realised that many of these children’s lives could have been so different, if they had assistance and intervention, before they turned to a life of crime. She decided to "switch sides" and to become part of the solution. She started New Jerusalem Children’s Home - 24 years ago - when HIV/Aids was rife and left scores of children orphaned. homeless and HIV-positive. "We wanted to give these children a home, a family, an education and a future," says Anna.
These days, according to Anna, substance abuse is the number one reason why children are placed in New Jerusalem’s care - “… and there is no medication to cure that.” More and more children are born with foetal alcohol syndrome and disabilities and are then left destitute.
At the moment, New Jerusalem has 116 children, from newborns to 18 years of age. They have a pre-school and primary school on-site, which is also attended by other children in the area.
According to Anna, the financial burden has never been as great as it is now and that’s why they again reached out to Good Morning Angels.
