Thank you! 89,600 people in need across SA received a hot meal on Mandela Day
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
The team carried on cooking and serving communities until the 21:00 lockdown curfew on Mandela Day on Saturday.
Last week, we asked you to support our #GMAMandelaDay initiative, to feed as many people as possible on Mandela Day, 18 July 2020. Good Morning Angels supported Jacaranda FM’s own DJ Jazzy D with his goal of providing a healthy, hot meal to as many people as possible, across the country, on Mandela Day. Amid the Covid-19 restrictions, we asked you to donate R67 instead of doing 67 minutes of community service on Mandela Day this year.
Thank you for heeding this call … and for donating R670,000, enough to create 40,000 meals.
We are proud and happy to report that DJ Jazzy D and the cooking teams across the country were able to serve a hot, delicious meal to 89,600 people!!!
They carried on cooking and serving until just before the 21:00 lockdown curfew on Mandela Day on Saturday evening.
The teams reached people in need from the greater Pretoria area, Olievenhoudbosch, Soweto, Johannesburg, Durban, Nelspruit, Port Elizabeth, the Western Cape, and more.
There were some ingredients leftover at Jazzy’s cooking station in Eersterust, Pretoria - so they went back on Sunday and cooked some more!
Thank you to everyone who donated, supported, cooked, worked, and cared - in the spirit of Madiba and his love for all South Africans.
It’s in our hands!
