Rozanne McKenzie reflects on A&G Cross Triathlon 2023, prepares for 2024
Updated | By Jacaranda FM / Auto & General
Rozanne McKenzie is ready for the Auto & General Cross Triathlon 2024 following her debut in 2023.
With the Auto & General Cross Triathlon a matter of days away, our very own Rozanne McKenzie gave us some insight into what she learned in 2023 and what she is most looking forward to in 2024.
What was your experience of the 2023 event like?
My experience of the A&G Cross Triathlon was absolutely transformative. It was one of the most difficult things I've ever done. It taught me so much about myself. It was so challenging and with completing it, I realised, I can do hard stuff.
What will you do differently in 2024 having taken part in 2023?
The first thing I'm doing differently is that this year I'm doing the full distance and last year I did the sprint. I'm putting a lot of time into my training for the event and also working on the mental aspect of the triathlon. It's twice the distance, but I think a lot of that is mentally staying positive and fighting through the aches and pains, and the hills of Steyn City. That 30km mountain bike leg is the thing I'm looking forward to the least.

What advice do you have for anyone wanting to take part in a triathlon?
Run your own race. Most people that are doing the event are doing for fun and to push themselves out of a comfort zone. One step, stroke, and pedal at a time. Just keep going.
What do you consider to be the biggest no-no when it comes to triathlons?
I would say, don't compare yourself to anyone else. Just do you. Don't overtrain, you might start taking the joy out of it for yourself.
What makes the A&G Triathlon at Steyn City such an enjoyable experience?
The A&G Cross Triathlon is such an enjoyable experience, because it is so well-organised and Steyn City is beautiful! Getting to do an event like this in such exquisite surroundings gives you the extra push you need when the legs start to get a bit tired.
Everything you need to know about the A&G Cross Triathlon 2024
Joburg is gearing up for another exhilarating and exclusive X tri-event in the heart of Gauteng at Steyn City on 24 February 2024.
Following the huge success of the Auto & General Cross Triathlon in 2022 and 2023, 800 athletes are eagerly poised to confront the challenge as this year’s event - which is already sold out!
The full action kicks off with a 600-metre swim in the refreshing waters of the Steyn City lagoon, followed by a pulse-pounding 30-kilometre off-road cycle ride along the exhilarating trails within the estate. The event finishes off with a robust 7-kilometre run on secure pathways.
For those seeking shorter distances, the option for half distances allows younger participants to join in the fun.
Contestants could opt to enter individually or as a team, providing friends and colleagues with an enjoyable day out.
What's more, our very own Rozanne McKenzie, who had a memorable debut in last year's triathlon amidst the beautiful and secure surroundings of Steyn City, is making a return this year.
