Wisdom teeth usually start to grow between the ages of 17 and 21, according to the Colgate website.

However, this young boy, Ryan Scarpelli, has been named the youngest person to not only have his wisdom tooth grow but also have it extracted.

According to Guinness World Records, nine-year-old Ryan broke a 20-year-old record which was previously set by Matthew Adams (USA), who had two wisdom teeth removed in 2002, aged nine years 339 days.

The wisdom tooth was first noticed by Ryan's orthodontist who advised him to go see a specialist surgeon, Dr Vigilante, because the wisdom tooth was growing on top of a molar.

Ryan said he was not aware that he had a wisdom tooth growing. "I was shocked. I could not feel it at all," he was quoted as saying in the Guinness World Records.

“My orthodontist said it needed to be removed so that the molar could drop properly." The tooth was removed by the specialist surgeon.

It was Ryan's mother who realised that her son has broken a world record.

The boy says that this record made him proud.

"It feels really good and makes me proud," he told Guinness World Records.
