What is the science behind this?
When you breastfeed, you burn calories. According to Healthline, breastfeeding moms lose on average 500 additional calories daily.
The site also reports that: "breastfeeding will help to contract your uterus and shrink it back down to its pre-pregnancy size much more quickly." It adds that by the time you are six weeks postpartum, your belly should look much slimmer.
However, it is important to note that you can't just eat unhealthy food and not exercise and expect miracles.
Physical activity and healthy eating is a huge component of safe and healthy weight.
So, although it is not advisable for breastfeeding mothers to go on a diet, it is still important for them to eat the right food and the right portions. Speak to your dietitian about what you should eat if you are trying to lose weight but are still breastfeeding.
