'DrD' talks lockdown finances and SA economy with David Shapiro
Updated | By JacPod
In today's podcast episode, 'DrD' Dorianne Weil talks with highly respected
South African stock market commentator David Shapiro - who's Deputy
Chairman of Sasfin Securities - about the economic challenges we're facing as a country in this COVID-19 lockdown.
David Shapiro shares what he believes the financial future holds for us all - and talks about the eight other financial storms he's weathered in his 50 or so years in the financial sector - and what they've taught him.
"This slump, what we're going through, is a health issue - it is not a financial issue. That's important. This is health. And this will pass. The virus will work it's way out of the system," Shapiro says.
"When I say this is not financial, it means that the global economy is still in a good shape. The banks are still strong. Global governments are still strong."
"In this time of the COVID-19 virus pandemic the greatest generator by far of anxiety, fear and uncertainty is financial insecurity," says Weil. " David Shapiro joins me to discuss 'What now?'"
Plus, Shapiro discusses how we should potentially start to look at reducing lockdown containment - or setting plans in place to do so - so we can offer business people hope about when their businesses can begin to come back online.
