A father named Marcus Alleyne from the UK has gone on to earn over 30,000 signatures on a petition to have period pains validated as a reason for schoolgirls to miss school.
Now this a hot topic for debate.

Marcus Alleyne found out that it was not a valid reason after being told his 13-year-old daughter could not miss school due to severe menstruation pains. It has been labelled as an unauthorised absence.

The family became aware of the issue when his daughter was in pain and unable to sleep due to her period pains. The family did not feel it was right to force her to go to school.
Marcus then contacted the school, and their response left him shocked.
The school asked if she would be absent due to a period, and when he responded yes, he was informed that it would be marked as an unauthorised absence.
He later told ITV:
"We need to make significant changes to the institutions responsible for nurturing our young women and future female leaders and educate the prehistoric mindsets of the policy creators and decision-makers.
"I think some people have been particularly encouraged that it’s a dad standing up for young women, but I think that’s only because of the way we’ve been fed – that it’s only a ‘woman’s problem,’ but it’s not, it’s a social problem."
Marcus' petition to the Education Department has not been responded to yet.
