Lockdown Lessons: The Global check-in, Part 1
Updated | By Diane Macpherson
When we started this podcast series in March, South Africa was preparing to go into hard lockdown - level five. 144 days later, and South Africans are now lockdown experts. So, in this episode of Lockdown Lessons, we take a look at the current experiences of people all over the world, from China to Florida to Australia and Mexico.
We touch base with our Lockdown Lessons couple in China, Oli and Kirsty Boyes - after more than three
months - to find out how things are going for them there.
We also
hear from people all around the world, about their lockdown experiences,
from Mexico to Dubai to Australia and the U.S.
Our listener in Mexico for example says they've had "Corona" for many years. He's referring of course to the Mexican beer.
As a result, he explains that a word with a positive connotation now has a negative one, which leaves the many Mexicans named 'Corona' in a weird space.
Our listener in Tokyo explains that there's been an increase in cases of the Coronavirus among people in their twenties and early thirties, believed to be linked to them going to nightclubs in the nightlife district.
Oli and Kirsty are a South African couple - who moved to China over a year ago as Kirsty wanted some
international teaching experience. In the first six episodes they guided us through the lockdown process, and what to expect, as they'd already completed 52 days in lockdown.
Now listen to Episode 7 of Lockdown Lessons - Coming Out
the Other Side - where we compare notes with people around the world.
