Mental Health: Selena Gomez on how being off the internet helped her

The singer talks about how being off social media for over four years has helped her be in a better mental state.
Mental health remains in the spotlight, especially with suicide on the rise.
Many celebrities have opened up about how social media bullying has negatively affected their mental health.
One celebrity who decided to distance herself from the internet is Selena Gomez.
The singer has been off social media for over four years. She has co-founded a mental health platform called Wondermind. The platform is aimed at helping those who are struggling with mental health challenges.
In an interview with Good Morning America, the star says one of the things that has helped her to be in a better space emotionally and mentally is being off the internet.

“I haven’t been on the internet in four and a half years,” she said.
The 'Same Old Love' hitmaker says she is now in a happier place.
“It has changed my life completely. I am happier, I am more present, I connect more with people. It makes me feel normal,” she said during the interview.
The 29-year-old, who became famous in her teenage years, says taking the radical step to disconnect herself from the internet has shaped her.
“I can’t believe I am where I am mentally just because of how I took the necessary steps in order to kind of remove myself from that because it’s just not normal," she said.
The 'It Ain't Me' hitmaker says she is probably the happiest she has ever been.
Gomez is also excited about turning 30 on 22 July.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to step into this chapter alone, independently, strong, confidently,” she said.
