An owner defines the word 'deposit' to a confused client

When a cancellation is made suddenly, should the owner refund fully?
Well, that was the expectation of one client recently. Instead of going back and forth, the owner decided to take the conversation to social media.

A client fell ill and requested to cancel an appointment made on the day; the owner then replied that it was noted. However, the client then went on to request that his deposit be sent back immediately.
The owner politely advised that it was not possible as it was too short notice. The client in question was not happy with the response.

COVID-19 impacted many businesses negatively, with some forced to pay back funds to clients, which had a ripple effect, causing doors to close. However, should a client lose the funds if unable to attend an appointment?
