Updated | By Poelano Malema
If you live in Johannesburg, there are plenty of things you can do that promise to be fun for the entire family. Here is a list of them...
December is finally here. It is time to relax and have fun.
If you are planning to get out of your house to visit places that feature fun activities, then we have you covered.
Maropeng and Sterkfontein Caves
Go back into history and see where our ancestors used to live. These are the caves where scientists have discovered many hominid and other animal fossils, dating back more than four-million years. It is a serious adventure, where you will need to wear comfortable clothes and shoes, because the tour takes 45 minutes. After the adventure, you can head to the nearby Cradle of Humankind - a World Heritage Site. This is where fossils of some of the earliest known life forms on Earth were found.
Have you ever wondered how it would feel like to live in an upside-down house? Wonder no more. As the name says, the Upside-down House is a house built upside down. Couches, fridges etc. are all upside down. This is definitely a rad place to visit, especially with kids because there are jumping castles and coin operated kiddies rides.
Honeydew Mazes is a great place to take your kids this Festive Season. They have a giant maze tour which takes 60 to 90 minutes, which you can follow up with some relaxation time in the shade. Bonus, you get a free ice-cream if you answer one of their quizzes correctly. Don’t forget to check out the games and puzzles in the courtyard area.

If you enjoy hiking, the Hennops hiking trail is a great place to visit. Expect a day of beautiful scenery and enjoy a braai and swim at the picnic spot after your hike.
Whether you want to watch a movie, check out a musical, or just have fun at the casino, there are lots of fun activities suitable for the entire family at Montecasino. You can also enjoy shopping at several speciality stores, enjoy delicious food at different restaurants, and visit the Bird Gardens.
Melville Koppies Nature Reserve
Melville Koppies Nature Reserve is a National Heritage Site. You can expect to see stunning natural beauty on your walk and explore their amazing archaeological sites and gardens. Take your children along and enjoy nature with them.
