Updated | By Poelano Malema
As the world observes International Women's Day, here is how you can celebrate.
8 March marks International Women's Day.
The first International Women's Day was celebrated by the United Nations in 1977.
The day is aimed at celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

To celebrate, the International Women's Day's website gives the following guide:
Celebrate women's achievements
Look at the women around you and what they have achieved. Verbalise how proud you are about what they have achieved; put the spotlight on their incredible work.
If you are a woman, also look at your own achievements and celebrate yourself.

Raise awareness about discrimination
Women are often discriminated against in society, the workplace, religious institutions, and sometimes even in the home. This International Women's Day, take your stand against discrimination and raise awareness. Look at whether there are any discriminatory laws and practices and take the bold step and speak out against such.
Also be aware of your own attitudes towards women.
Take action to drive gender parity
Gender-balanced representation is crucial, especially as the world tries to rectify mistakes of the past.
You can drive gender parity by being vocal and correct gender inequities in your workplace, society groups, church etc., or instances of bias behaviour.
