This week users received an in-app message, with WhatsApp detailing what that the changes will include:
- How businesses can use Facebook hosted services to store and manage their WhatsApp chats;
- Updates to WhatsApp’s service and how it processes your data;
- How WhatsApp will partner with Facebook to offer integrations across Facebook Company products.
The new Ts and Cs are compulsory and users will have to agree that WhatsApp can share their data with the tech company or they face losing access to their accounts.
According to the company, these changes will officially come into effect from 8 February 2021. So any user which has not agreed to the new terms will no longer be able to use the messaging service from the date.
Many users have already seen the pop-up message and clicked the 'agree' button without reading the terms in the small print. Others have opted to use alternative chat services like Signal or Telegram.
WhatsApp will share its users' personal information, including phone numbers, IP addresses, contacts, & more with Facebook from Feb. 8, according to the new T&Cs. No opt-out. The only way to object is to leave the service & move to a service like Signal or Telegram. https://t.co/FbGcq5T3JB
