National Women's Day is celebrated annually on 9 August. It is the anniversary of the great women's march of 1956. On that day, about 2,000 women marched to the Union Buildings to protest the carrying of pass books by Black women in urban areas.
Even today, women continue to fight against oppression and for the equal rights of all humans.
To celebrate the day and the strength of women, there are several events happening in the country. Let’s look at those happening in and around Gauteng.

Pha2-tshedzo Health & Beauty Spa is hosting a Women’s Day event to pamper women and give them an unforgettable beauty treatment.
For only R500, you can enjoy beauty presentations, DIY facials, skin analysis, refreshments, and massages.
The event is from 11am until 3pm at The Blades, Plot 75, Zeekoegat, Kameeldrift Rd.
Louis Pasteur Hospital Women’s Day celebration
The Louis Pasteur Hospital invites women to come together and celebrate Women’s Day with a delicious lunch, goodie bag, and live entertainment. There will also be guest speakers who will be addressing issues surrounding women.
Tickets are R150 and the event is from 12pm until 5pm.
4th Doek On Fleek All Women's Day Pretoria
Celebrate Women’s Day with a picnic and entertainment from
the amazing Vusi Nova. The event starts at 11am at Bundu Inn Ga-rankuwa, Rankuwa,
Pretoria. Tickets range from R100 to R150.
There will also be motivational speakers. The theme for the event is blue denim,
doek, and t-shirt.
