Billions of people around the world own mobile phones.

According to World Economic Forum, 2023 marked 50 years since the very first mobile phone call. It also reports that there are now more mobile phones (8.58-billion) than people (7.95-billion).

Thousands of people suffer from smartphone addiction, also known as 'nomophobia' (fear of being without a mobile phone).

This leads to many taking their mobile phones to bed and charging them while lying down on the bed. Some people even put their phones under their pillow while on charge.

Warning, this is dangerous.

Apple has released a warning to state that this can affect one's health.

"Avoid prolonged skin contact with the charging cable and connector when the charging cable is connected to a power source because it may cause discomfort or injury.

"Sleeping or sitting on the charging cable or connector should be avoided," states Apple

The mobile phone giant adds that "use common sense to avoid situations where your skin is in contact with a device, its power adapter, or a wireless charger when it’s operating or connected to a power source for long periods of time".

It states that the phone should be charged in a well-ventilated area.

"For example, don’t sleep on a device, power adapter, or wireless charger, or place them under a blanket, pillow, or your body, when it’s connected to a power source. Keep your iPhone, the power adapter, and any wireless charger in a well-ventilated area when in use or charging."
