Mug cake in a microwave is so yesterday! Cake in a frying pan just makes more sense.

We can't deny that mug cakes have their perks: they’re quick to make (just one minute), require less cleanup (just a mug and a spoon), and require hardly any effort.

But making a cake in a frying pan takes the concept up a notch. It offers a better texture, a richer flavour, and – most importantly – more cake.

Using a frying pan gives you more control over the cooking process, something that can be tricky with a mug cake made in the microwave. After all, there’s nothing worse than a dry, rubbery mug cake disaster.

The frying pan method also opens the door for creativity. You can play around with toppings, make layers, and experiment with different shapes.

So, why opt for a frying pan cake when you can just use the oven?

Baking a chocolate cake in the oven takes about 30 to 35 minutes. But, if you're craving something quick, the frying pan is your best bet.

Also, thanks to load shedding, your oven might not work when that chocolate cake craving hits. You can make it on a portable gas stove or even a braai stand.

All you need is a frying pan and a simple chocolate cake recipe. Chances are, you’ve got everything you need right in your cupboard right now.

Some of the basic ingredients you'll need include: Flour, sugar, butter, egg, vanilla extract, baking powder, salt, milk and cocoa powder.

If you want to zhoosh up your frying pan cake, add chocolate chips and yoghurt or sour cream in the batter.

You can also add toppings like berries, whipped cream and sugar powder when the cake is done.

Yummy, yummy, get into my tummy.
