Does turmeric have benefits for the skin?

There have been several claims that turmeric has benefits for the skin, but how true is it?
Turmeric is one of the most popular ancient spices.
It is often added to soups, rice, curry, and stews.
Turmeric is also an ingredient that is featured in many beauty products. The big question is, what are the benefits?
According to Healthline, 'turmeric’s health benefits stem from curcumin, a bioactive component with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.'
It also contains antioxidants.
Medical News Today states the following benefits of antioxidants:
- Reducing DNA damage from UV light.
- Improving hydration.
- Stimulating the production of collagen and elastin.
- Reducing the appearance of wrinkles and pigmentation.
- Supporting healing processes.
- Reducing inflammation.
- Softening.

Popular vlogger, Dr Dray, says not only does turmeric have antioxidants, but it is antimicrobial.
Turmeric is said to help brighten the skin and the appearance of uneven tone.
However, Dr Dray says there are only a few studies that have been done on the benefits of turmeric for the skin. Therefore, there isn't enough evidence to prove some of the claims that have been made about the spice's benefits for the skin.

So, although turmeric might benefit some people, it is not guaranteed that it will work for you.
