Five energy-boosting foods to combat fatigue

Ditch high-caffeine drinks in 2024, and boost your energy with these healthy food options.
Scores of people will be returning to work in the coming days after getting some much-needed rest during the festive season.
However, some people - especially those whose break was short or jam-packed with activities, suffer from post-holiday exhaustion.
If you are returning to work soon, but still feel sluggish, you can help combat fatigue by eating healthy foods and staying hydrated.
According to the University of Michigan, "a diet with lots of leafy green vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and healthy fats such as fish, nuts, and seeds may help lessen the effects of feeling tired".
Here's a look at some of the foods you can eat to give you a natural energy boost.

Oatmeal
While some people prefer skipping breakfast, eating in the morning can help balance your sugar levels and give you much-needed energy to take on the day. Start your morning with a bowl of oatmeal.
According to WebMD, "It's a complex carbohydrate. That means it's full of fiber and nutrients. Oatmeal is slower to digest and supplies energy evenly instead of all at once, and it is whole grain and gluten-free. A bowl in the morning will keep you going for hours."
Greek yogurt
Greek yogurt is a favourite in many homes. It contains nutrients such as vitamin B-12, calcium, probiotics, magnesium, and potassium. The last two are especially good for people in need of an energy boost.

Bananas
Bananas are a great fruit to add to your breakfast or lunch options. You can add it to a smoothie or your morning porridge. It is also the perfect grab-and-go snack!
"It’s got vitamins, minerals, and good carbs, which give you quick energy,” according to the American Dietetic Association.

Eggs
Eggs contain proteins and nutrients that help you sustain energy. They also help with your brain health, which makes them a great food to eat at the start of your day.
