Seven foods that surprisingly make you fat
Updated | By Poelano Malema
Don’t let these foods rob you from living a long, healthy life.
Obesity is a health condition where a person weighs more than what is considered a normal weight for their height.
The condition affects millions of people around the world and can make people prone to diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure.
Although a healthy diet is not always easy to maintain, with determination and discipline, it is possible.
Below we bring you seven foods that when eaten in excess can cause you to put on weight:
Fruits
Fruits are some of the healthiest foods around, but they need to be eaten in moderation. Although they are rich in vitamins and antioxidants, some fruits contain more sugar than others, and therefore need to be eaten in moderation. Fruits high in sugar include; bananas, sugar cane, grapes, and mangoes. Dried fruit also has more calories and sugar than fresh fruits. So rather choose fresh fruits.
Smoothies
If the smoothie you are having consists of ingredients such as chocolate, then you should probably think twice before consuming it.
Ice cream
Ice cream may be very delicious, but if you eat too much of it, it can be an unhealthy delight. It is packed with fat and sugar, which makes it high in calories. If the body takes in more calories than it burns, it stores those excess calories as fat.
Liver
Liver is high in cholesterol and frequently eating foods that are high in cholesterol can cause obesity.
Processed meats
Any meat that has been preserved by curing, salting, smoking, drying or canning is not only dangerous for your health, but can contribute to weight gain. Examples of such meat is wors, bacon, sausages, hot dogs, salami, and corned beef.
Saturated fatty acids food
Butter, cream, full cream milk, cheese, cooking margarine, and coconut oil are some sources of saturated fat. These kinds of foods can increase your chances of not only obesity, but heart attack as well.
Baked goodies
Cakes, biscuits, pastries, and pies are made using butter and cream, which are full of saturated fat. So avoid eating these if you want to maintain a healthy weight.
Always remember that the ball is in your court. You can choose to treat your body well by feeding it the right foods, or you can choose to rob yourself of a good and healthy life by eating the wrong foods.
