6 tips on how to rest your body and mind ahead of the new year
Updated | By Poelano Malema
Use the festive season to ensure your body and mind are rested and ready for the new year.
This year has really been busy and thanks goodness it is almost over.
Why not use the last weeks of the year to regroup and refresh your body, soul, and mind?
Here is how you can go about it.
Get enough sleep
Isn't it great that you don't have to worry about the alarm going off because it's time to wake up and prepare to go to work?
The holidays are the perfect time to give your body enough rest and sleep.
Turn off the alarm and let your family and friends know that you are going to be using this time to rest. This might even mean having to tell them from which time of the day they can contact you. Because, let's face it, a call at 6am from a friend or loved one can disturb your sleep and results in you not being able to go back to sleep. Also, switch off your mobile data so that you don't get disturbed by notifications until you are awake.
Have a massage
The festive season is the perfect time to book a massage. Massages are a great way of allowing your body to rest and your mind to switch off and chill.
Detox
One way to ensure that you enter the new year feeling refreshed is to detox.
Detoxing your body makes it feel lighter and rejuvenated.
So, after the big Christmas lunch, right before you go back to work, detox.
Deal with negative emotions from the past
One of the things that can weigh us down in life is negative emotions or past hurts. In order to ensure that you enter the new year on a positive note, let go of past hurts.
We agree that this is not easy, but it is possible. Make time to confront the people who hurt you to make peace and ask forgiveness from the people you have hurt. Speak to a professional even if you have to, just ensure that you don't carry the baggage from 2019 into 2020.
Meditate
There are many benefits that your mind will reap from meditation.
Meditation has been proven to help reduce stress and it helps control anxiety.
So, take time to just meditate. The good thing is you can do it anytime, anywhere, as long as you choose a quiet place, where there won't be disturbances.
Watch a movie and read a book
Movies have a way of helping us escape from reality and just relax the mind, especially if you choose the right movie. Books are also known to do the same.
What is also fantastic about the two is that they can also teach you valuable lessons in a fun and relaxed way.
Go ahead- pick a movie/book, a glass of wine and just unwind!
