Three unique uses for kitty litter
Updated | By Andrew Hallett
Did you ever think to use kitty litter for things other than your cat's poop?
As its name suggests, kitty litter is for cats. Basically, cats do their business in the kitty litter instead of on your new carpet. Well, some cats, as the felines I have come across don't really care about that new carpet.
I digress.
What I really want to tell you about are the other uses for kitty litter. There really is more to the substance than just a place for your cat to poop on.
I have come across three very random other uses for kitty litter. Check them out...
1 - Say goodbye to smelly shoes
Stinky shoes are the worst. They, well, smell bad. There are loads of products on the market to make your shoes smell a bit better, but they can be quite expensive. Enter kitty litter. All you need to do is put a cup of kitty litter into a pantyhose, tie the end, and slide into your smelly shoe. The kitty litter is designed to absorb odours, so letting it get to know your shoe's deepest, darkest secrets over night should do the trick.
2 - Save your wet phone
Are you the type of person prone to dropping your phone in water? Silly! Well, next time, forget the rice trick and use kitty litter. It is far more absorbent than rice - it works a treat. Look, if you drop your phone in water and leave it there, I highly doubt you are ever going to revive it, so this tip is for lesser exposures to liquid. All you need to do is place your phone in an old sock and put it in a ziplock bag. Fill the ziplock bag with kitty litter and leave the phone in there for a few days. Bing, bang, boom... dry phone!
3 - Remove old grease and oil stains
If you spill oil and grease on the floor, instantly throw some kitty litter on the liquid to ensure it does not leave a stain. However, older stains are not as simple to remove, but they are not impossible to get rid of. For older stains, pour some paint thinner on top and then cover with kitty litter. Leave the kitty litter on for about 12 hours and repeat the process if needed. The stains will disappear.
