Woolworths vs PnP vs Checkers vs Shoprite: Which one is the cheapest?

We're all feeling the pinch with rising food, electricity, and petrol prices and wish we could save some money on basic items.
Most of us can admit that going grocery shopping is becoming more dreadful every day and would appreciate price drops on our everyday essentials.
A comparison was done on South Africa’s major retailers, and, as expected, Woolworths Food still remains the most costly option depending on what your basket contains. Name brands seem to cost a lot more than the 'No Brand' items.

If you were shocked at the total on your till slip on your last trip to Pick 'n Pay, there could be a reason. Pick 'n Pay is competing in both the premium and cost-saving market. It came in second to Woolworths with the second highest-priced basket.
Some of the affordable items are 'No Name' items and impact the overall basket.
