Trevor Stuurman, Nandi Madida, Connie Chiume, Moonchild Sanelly, and Warren Masemola are some of our local stars who are featured on the visual album.
‘Black Is King’ celebrates black resilience and culture. It is based on the music of 'The Lion King: The Gift'.
"The soundtrack is a love letter to Africa and I wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa," Beyonce told Good Morning America in an interview.
"Each song was written to reflect the film's storytelling that gives the listener a chance to imagine their own imagery while listening to a new contemporary interpretation. It was important that the music was not only performed by the most interesting and talented artists but also produced by the best African producers. Authenticity and heart were important to me," she added.
The film is written, directed, and executive produced by Beyoncé. It was shot in different locations, including New York, Los Angeles, South Africa, West Africa, London, and Belgium.
