Bono: 'I think music has gotten very girly'

Bono says hip hop is the only place for "young male anger" as music has gotten "very girly".
U2 frontman Bono has come under fire for saying music these days is too girly, and missing some rage.
The 57-year-old made the remarks during a recent interview with Rolling Stone magazine.
He told the publication that his son Elijah, who is in a band, believes "a rock & roll revolution is around the corner".
When asked if he believed it, Bono gave his thoughts on the state of modern music.
"I think music has gotten very girly. And there are some good things about that, but hip-hop is the only place for young male anger at the moment – and that's not good."
Bono says rage is at the heart of rock 'n roll music.
"When I was 16, I had a lot of anger in me. You need to find a place for it and for guitars, whether it is with a drum machine – I don't care. The moment something becomes preserved, it is f**king over. You might as well put it in formaldehyde. In the end, what is rock & roll? Rage is at the heart of it."
Social media users reacted to his comments with disgust, sarcasm, and anger.
Y'all, we did it. #Bono says Rock 'n' Roll has gotten "very girly" 👏👏 I'd like to personally thank our family, friends and everyone who has always believed in the revolution. Without y'all this would have never been made possible 🙌 https://t.co/hjkqgtMaZD

Bono railing against modern music being “too girly”; hilariously stupid on so many levels not the least being the pure insipidity of his oeuvre - ‘He must have missed 2017’ https://t.co/oSkooNY3BB

Bono: Music is too "girly" and there's not enough rage in that sound.

Me: *plays Jagged Little Pill in full*
Bono: Okay, but that's not a kind of rage that makes my fragile masculinity comfortable.
