Drake bounces back as new album heads to #1
Drake took a lot of Ls in 2024 but he's making a comeback with his latest music project.
Drake and PartyNextDoor's new joint album, 'Some Sexy Songs 4 U', is on track to debut at number one in America.
According to HITS Daily Double, the album is projected to sell over 250,000 equivalent album units, putting it in the top spot on the Billboard 200.
The album, which is also styled '$ome $exy $ongs 4 U', was released on Valentine's Day and features 21 tracks, including 'Gimme a Hug' and 'Pimmie's Dilemma'.
Guest features include Pim, Chino Pacas, and Yebba.
The album broke Apple Music's biggest R&B/soul album first-day streams record.
During a recent concert in Australia, Drake told the crowd the project included "some turned-up songs".
"And there’s some personal feelings on there for you. Hopefully, whoever you’re with on Valentine’s Day, hopefully, y’all can share that experience together," he said.
Drake dropped his new album just a few days after his music nemesis, Kendrick Lamar, performed at the Super Bowl halftime show.
The rappers were involved in an epic rap beef in 2024 that saw them take personal jabs at each other in several songs.
Lamar was declared the winner of the battle after his diss track, 'Not Like Us,' soared to number one and won five Grammys including 'Song of the Year'.
Drake has filed a lawsuit against Universal Music Group, which represents both rappers. He is suing the label for defamation and harassment claiming it published and promoted content that "falsely accuses Drake of being a paedophile".
Lamar raps on the track:
"Say, Drake, I hear you like 'em young
Tryna strike a chord and it's probably A minor
Just make sure you hide your lil' sister from him..."
Drake certainly took a lot of Ls in 2024 but 2025 is already shaping up to be his year.
