Lola Young's hit single, 'Messy', has been named the biggest song of 2025 in the United Kingdom so far.

The UK's Official Charts released a list of the top 40 songs heating up the charts.

Young released 'Messy' in May 2024. It was the sixth song released from her sophomore album, 'This Wasn't Meant for You Anyway'.

One year after its release, the song remains a big hit around the world, including South Africa. It's currently #1 on the CTM Top 40 with Danny Painter

Music lovers resonated with her "real-life lyrics". She sings:

"'Cause I'm too messy, and then I'm too f***ing clean
You told me, "Get a job", then you ask where the hell I've been
And I'm too perfect 'til I open my big mouth
I want to be me, is that not allowed?
And I'm too clever and then I'm too f***ing dumb
You hate it when I cry unless it's that time of the month
And I'm too perfect 'til I show you that I'm not"

In an interview with Metal magazine, Young described the song as an "ADHD anthem".

"It really showcases everything I felt during my last relationship, but also it is deeper than that, as it talks about how I feel about myself in general – being too messy one day and too clean another, struggling to find that balance in myself," the 24-year-old said, per the Indie Review

'Messy' beat Rosé and Bruno's 'APT', Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga's 'Die With a Smile', and 'That's So True' by Gracie Abrams, which also feature in the top five.

Other songs on the list include 'Birds of a Feather' by Billie Eilish (#6), 'Good Luck, Babe!' by Chappell Roan (#7), 'Espresso' by Sabrina Carpenter (#11) and 'Not Like Us' by Kendrick Lamar (#14).
