Lorde debuts 'What Was That' song and music video
Welcome back, queen! Lorde's highly anticipated solo single is finally here.
Only Lorde can have the cops called on her, and release a new song and a music video in the same week.
The 28-year-old New Zealand singer released 'What Was That' one week after teasing the new song.
It is her first solo single in almost four years.
Lorde, whose real name is Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor, co-wrote the song with producer James Harmon Stack.
'What Was That' is the first single released from Lorde's upcoming album.
Hundreds of Lorde fans heard the song for the first time on Tuesday when she made an impromptu appearance at Washington Square Park in New York City.

The singer shared a message to a WhatsApp group that read: "Meet me in the park tonight 7pm."
While she didn't reveal the exact location of the cryptic meet-up, fans figured it out and rushed to Washington Square Park.
However, it wasn't long before the police were called because the crowd had grown too big.
Officers notified Lorde and her team that the gathering had to be shut down before she even arrived.
“Omg @thepark the cops are shutting us down. I am truly amazed by how many of you showed up! But they’re telling me you gotta disperse, I’m so sorry," Lorde wrote on Instagram Stories.
That wasn't the end of it because Lorde still made her way down to the park. The footage from the gathering appears in her new music video.
The entire video was shot on location in the Big Apple.
"No fancy editing, no fancy clothes, no makeup, just pure Lorde magic," a YouTuber commented about the video.
Another user said, "I love how she did this music video. This is how we should use our phones!!!"
A third wrote: "The way she used the footage from YESTERDAY to drop her new song."
The video shows Lorde walking through the city with headphones as she makes her way to Washington Square Park.
